The Conference will address how the 2009 presidential election in Iran and its aftermath provided conventional international media channels with great challenges in covering events and will look at how with further controls brought to bear on the foreign press, many channels turned to use mobile phone
footage and Twitter messages in television coverage.

Interview: Maziar Bahari Has Been Threatened Again

In the light of the achievements of the recent campaign, “Our Society will be a Free Society”, steered by Maziar Bahari, and his extensive coverage in the international media of the post-election crises in Iran, he has been targeted with yet another threat, channelled through his family in Iran. More than 3,500 petition Iran to release journalists, writers

CPJ in coalition with 15 other international free expression groups of which ARTICLE 19 can also be named were petitioning Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Sayed Ali Khamenei, to immediately release dozens of journalists, writers, and bloggers currently imprisoned in the country. Our Society Will Be A Free Society - Launch of Online Petition

In response to the brutal crackdown against journalists and writers in Iran, a coalition of leading press freedom and free expression groups, launch an online petition drive calling for the release of those imprisoned.

At least 60 journalists and writers are now in prison in Iran, more than in any other country in the world.
