Iran pardons dozens ahead of election anniversary

 
It's almost been a year since the disputed elections in Iran. In light of new protests marking the anniversary of the elections which saw Mahmoud Ahmadinejad enter a second term as President, the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has pardoned or commuted the prison sentences of 81 people convicted of offences linked to the unrest following the elections. Names of those released has not been announced.

The New Charge: Meeting With Mousavi and Karoubi

Political and media activists have been arrested since the June elections on charges of instilling doubt into the results of the elections and making various anti-state accusations. In a bid to step up anti government activities, political and media activists are now being arrested for meeting with reformist leaders Mir-Hossein Mousavi, Mehdi Karoubi and Seyed Mohammad Khatami. This new charge has been implemented into indictments by the judiciary since March 21st (Persian New Year).
